How it began
Our Family Memories started as a personal project for Carolyn Thomas:
“My parents had told me lots of interesting stories about their early lives – growing up in wartime Manchester, meeting at a dance, excitement over a family holiday in Blackpool for which my mum’s dad had scrimped and saved.
“My dad even told me about his amazement at seeing his first ever banana!”
They also still remembered precious stories and facts about their own parents and grandparents.
Carolyn explained: “I knew that I’d never remember all the details. So, drawing on more than 20 years’ experience as a local newspaper journalist, I interviewed them and wrote down the stories.
“With the help of my husband – a former journalist and book editor – we created a unique biography full of stories and old pictures that we could share with the three generations of our family.”
A friend was so impressed that they asked for a book for their parents. Then someone else Carolyn knew commissioned a book for her mum. And, so Our Family Memories was born!
